Before using Google DNS or OpenDNS on your Computer, Read this!

Public DNS services like OpenDNS or Google DNS may offer more faster lookups than your ISP DNS server of your ISP but in some cases, you may get much better download speeds if you use your ISP settings.

Public DNS services, like OpenDNS or Google DNS, may offer more reliable and faster lookups than the DNS server of your ISP but in some cases, you may get much better download speeds if you continue to stick to your ISP’s DNS server.

You know about Content Delivery Networks like Amazon, Akamai, etc. that have data centers located across the globe and they serve content from the one that’s closest to you geographically. A site like Adobe hosts its files on Akamai so when you download that 1 GB Photoshop installer from Adobe.com, the file will be served to you from the Akamai data center that’s nearest to you.

location of amazon cdn

A CDN uses your computer’s IP Address to determine your current location and then redirects you to the server that’s nearest to you. However, if you use a public DNS service, the CDN may not get to know your accurate location as your IP address is masked by the public DNS Service. The CDN could therefore serve content from a server that’s not closest to you and hence it will take more time to download files.

A recent story published in The Economist discusses this problem in much greater detail.

Are CDNs serving you content through the shortest path?

Considering the fact that all major websites – from Microsoft to CNN to YouTube – use CDNs for delivering content, it is important to know if your are getting served from the nearest located server. How do you find that out?

Step 1: Download the Dig tool and run it against a domain (like trials.adobe.com).

C:\labnol>dig trials.adobe.com A
trials.adobe.com. 687 IN CNAME trials.adobe.com.edgesuite.net.
a1326.g.akamai.net. 20 IN A 203.106.85.127
a1326.g.akamai.net. 20 IN A 203.106.85.40

Once you have the IP Addresses, you can find the server’s physical location using this online tool. If you are in India and request a file through Adobe (Akamai CDN), it should be served from their data-center in Asia and not the one in North America.

203.106.85.127 MY Malaysia Simpang Tiga TMnet Telekom Malaysia
203.106.85.40 MY Malaysia Simpang Tiga TMnet Telekom Malaysia

When I asked OpenDNS about this issue, their representative told me that it is something ‘fixable’ and that they’re working on a solution where the DNS Server itself passes on the client’s location to the CDN.

Unless this happens, as Atul Chitnis rightly points out, non-ISP DNS services “kill the benefits of CDNs like Akamai.”

Android: Disable Syncing of Picasa Web Albums to Gallery App

The Android operating system integrates well with all of your Google’s services including Gmail, Drive and even Picasa. By default, Google will sync your Picasa Web Albums to your Android device’s Gallery app.

Its good option but some time irritates while trying to organize on gallery here the simple and only one way to stop that…..,

1. Go to Settings > Accounts

2. Select your Google account, then tap on your Google account name to change your sync settings.

3. Scroll down to the bottom and uncheck the Sync Picasa Web albums option.

4.G o back into Settings > Application Manager or Apps or Applications. This will depend on your Android configuration and version.

5. Go to Applications > All

6. Scroll down and find Gallery and select it.

7. Tap on both the Clear Data and Clear Cache options. This will reset the cache and also clear the previously synced Picasa web albums from the Gallery app.

8. Go back to your Gallery app. You will notice that just your local photos and videos are listed.

9. If you Dropbox or Facebook media appears in the Gallery application, you can also do the same thing with your Facebook or Dropbox accounts. Go into your Facebook/Dropbox account in Settings > Accounts and then uncheck the appropriate sync photos options.  Once you do that, you will again need to clear the cache and data on the Gallery app via steps 4-7 again.

Ubuntu operating system comes to Android smartphones

Ubuntu on smartphoneshe Ubuntu operating system has been adapted to run on smartphones.

The Linux-based software will allow users to run desktop apps on their handsets, allowing them to double for PCs when docked to monitors.

The code will initially be released as a file which can be installed on Samsung's Galaxy Nexus phone, replacing Android.

Some analysts question whether consumers really want the power of a fully fledged computer on their phone.

Even so, Ubuntu's founder, Mark Shuttleworth, said he was in talks with manufacturers for devices to be sold with the system pre-installed within the year.

While he acknowledged the innovation would likely be limited to "enthusiasts and hobbyists" at first, he said it signalled a wider shift on the horizon.

"It's quite incredible that we're at this point when the power of the phone is crossing over that with baseline processing power of basic laptops," Mr Shuttleworth told the BBC.

"We're taking advantage of that so for the first time in history you have the full consumer PC platform available on a phone.

"I'm very confident if we look ahead over the next three to five years that's a transition that Apple is going to have to make... and if it's not Windows 9 it will be Windows 10 that will see Microsoft bring its phone and laptop together into one device. It's really cracking to do that ahead of everyone else."

Phones running the software will be showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next week.

Powerful apps

Ubuntu is the most popular operating system to be based on the Linux kernel - the code that lets software and hardware work together.

The London-based firm behind it, Canonical, offers it for download free of charge and has been helped by thousands of volunteers who contribute to the open source project.

The firm makes money back by offering support and training and also plans to take a share of sales from online marketplaces offered by handset makers who adopt its software.

It estimates that more than 20 million PCs already use it.

In many cases these are older machines which benefit from the fact it is less demanding on computer power than Windows - and is virus-free.

Media storeCanonical says it will take a cut of sales from manufacturer's stores

The new version has been designed to work on last and current-generation Android handsets which share the Linux kernel. This means Ubuntu can re-use existing software drivers to control the hardware.

There are already 45,000 native apps for the system - albeit with several notable omissions such as Adobe's Photoshop and the Office suite, although alternatives do exist.

Developers will be urged to adapt their apps' interfaces to look different when running on a phone's screen while offering the same core functionality.

To offer touch-based controls Ubuntu has adopted the same QML (Qt modelling language) framework being utilised by the upcoming Blackberry 10 operating system.

Mr Shuttleworth suggested this meant many app makers would be familiar with the technology.

In addition Ubuntu can run web apps written in the widely-adopted HTML5 language.

Advanced voice control

When running on phones Ubuntu can be controlled by the "head-up display" (Hud) option it introduced last year.

This allows users to type or say what command they want a program to carry out rather than having to click through menus.

"The Hud was born out of the phone design process," revealed Mr Shuttleworth.

"The key question we were asking is how do we allow developers to express some of the deeper richer functionality that you get typically in a desktop application when they write for a phone.

"Typically phone and tablet applications are streamlined slimmed-down versions of stuff that might have existed in a more sophisticated complicated form on the PC.

"And in our world where all of the functionality is there... you can invoke the Hud on the phone and talk to it with voice recognition instead of typing in your command - so you could say [for instance] you want a photo in a 1930s style - and our R&D effort is to make that natural."

Unconvinced about convergence

A version of the code will shortly be made available to developers to start adapting their apps.

The firm then plans to release a file for Galaxy Nexus phones by February, and later for other handsets and ultimately tablet computers as well.

Ubuntu on smartphonesManufacturers can adapt the look of Ubuntu's interface to suit their brands

One analyst suggested the news would raise awareness of the Ubuntu system, but was sceptical about its chances of success.

"It's an impressive move by Ubuntu but ultimately I don't think it's a smart move," said Chris Green, principal technology analyst at Davies Murphy Group Europe.

"They are not the first company to try and drop a desktop operating system on a mobile device and nobody has ever been able to make it work. Microsoft tried to foist something that looked and felt like normal Windows on a mobile phone and they had to screw it up and develop a separate phone system.

"If you look at the platforms that thrive at the moment it's the ones that have diverged and had a platform designed for mobile on their mobile devices and a platform designed for conventional PCs on those."

First Firefox phones revealed by Mozilla and Geeksphone

Mozilla has published details of the first smartphones to be powered by its Firefox operating system.

Two handsets are to be made by a small Spanish firm called Geeksphone and will be targeted at developers ahead of the system's formal launch.

The platform is based on the HTML5 web programming language and is being marketed as offering software writers more "freedom" than alternatives.

However, it faces competition from other soon-to-be-released systems.

Firefox OS phoneBlackberry 10, Ubuntu, Tizen and Sailfish are all due for release for smartphones before the end of 2013, joining a market already occupied by Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Blackberry 7 and Symbian among others.

One analyst said he did not believe there was enough room in the market for all to survive.

Low and high-end

The two new handsets are codenamed Keon and Peak.

Keon is the more basic model, including a 3.5in (8.9cm) screen, a 3MP (megapixel) camera and Qualcomm's low-end Snapdragon S1 processor.

Peak has a bigger 4.3in display, an 8MP camera and a more powerful Snapdragon S4. Mozilla noted this was probably "slightly faster" than the first generation devices that would be marketed to the public.

It added that Geeksphone's phones would be made available for sale next month, but did not provide a price.

It said that when devices went on general sale they would be cheaper than many alternatives and would be targeted at emerging markets.

Open source

The Mozilla Foundation already uses the Firefox brand for its web browser - an offshoot of the 1990's Netscape Navigator product. The software is developed by a community of volunteers and is run as an open source project, meaning its code is accessible to others allowing them to make their own modifications.

A Firefox OS simulator is also available for Android devices

The same principles are applied to the operating system and Mozilla highlights the fact that coders can market their apps through their own websites or any store they wish in addition to the organisation's own marketplace.

It adds that the lightweight nature of the system means that apps should run smoothly and offer "optimal battery life" on low-end devices.

However, one analyst questioned whether this would make Firefox OS stand out, bearing in mind developers were already free to offer web apps for most other devices, and in the case of Android could also sell native apps outside Google's own Play store if the user adjusted their settings to accept them.

"What Firefox is trying to do is make the web the app store and bring the openness of the web to phones," said Nick Dillon, senior analyst at the consultants Ovum.

"But the question is what does this offer over a cheap Android phone to a consumer looking to buy a low-end handset?

"On Android you got Google services pre-installed and the 700,000 apps in its store but Firefox OS isn't going to have these so will have reduced functionality."

Native or not?

If Firefox OS is a success it should help drive the creation of HTML5 apps, which by their nature should work on any smartphone.

In theory this works to developers' advantage as they can write a single program and then offer it across a range of platforms.

However, many view the language as a "work in progress" when it comes to mobile and believe that for the time being native apps - those coded for a specific platform - offer advantages.

"Applications that require more processing power and the full capabilities of a phone - games for example - lend themselves more to native applications," said Mr Dillon.

"Although HTML5 has come a long way there are still gaps, like for notifications, that have not been fully standardised across all browsers - so if you are building an app that can alert users to the fact they have received a new message, it's easier to do in a native app if you want to ensure a consistent experience.

"The trade-off, of course, is that it will take more time and effort to make the app for each platform."

Why windows 8 boots fast….?

In Windows 8, when you shutdown your computer, you actually are performing a hybrid shutdown by default. What’s a hybrid shutdown? As you probably have heard, Windows 8 boots up a lot faster than Windows 7 and previous versions of Windows.

This is because of the way it shuts down. Instead of performing a cold boot in which everything has to be loaded, i.e. the OS kernel, the apps, etc, Windows 8 performs a partial hibernation in which the Kernel session and device drivers are saved to disk. When you startup Windows 8, it loads up from that hibernation file, which makes boot time much faster.

boot times

In previous versions of Windows, the hibernation file was much larger because in addition to the kernel and device drivers, all application data was also stored in the file. Now that the file is smaller, the load times are better.

This featured is called Fast Startup in Windows 8 and it is enabled by default. You can check this by going to Power Options in Control Panel and clicking on Choose what the power button does in the left pane.

power button

fast startup windows 8

Scroll down and you should see a box checked that says Turn on fast startup (recommended). Note that if you do not have the Turn on fast startup checkbox listed at all, it is because hibernation is not enabled. To enable hibernation in Windows 8, open an elevated command prompt and type in the following line:

powercfg /hibernate on

enable hibernate

Now when you go to Power Options, you should see the box is visible and checked. So how to perform a full complete shutdown in Windows 8? There are three ways.

1. You can either disable fast startup from Power Options or

2. You can simply perform a restart instead of a shutdown.

3. You can use the following command at the command prompt:

shutdown /s /full / t 0

As odd as it may seem, restarting Windows 8 will first perform a complete shutdown followed by a cold boot. So those are the different ways you can perform a full shutdown of Windows 8, which comes in handy if you recently installed a new piece of hardware, etc. Enjoy!

Update Galaxy Note N7000 with RocketROM 4.1 Jelly Bean Custom ROM

If you decide to install the Jelly Bean based RocketROM, then all the Android 4.1 features will be flashed and updated on your Galaxy Note. Furthermore your smartphone will receive some extra features too, the firmware being developed by third party devs meaning that you will get a custom software and not a stock, or default one. As mentioned, there are some bugs and issues on this ROM, the Samsung keyboard and Face Unlock features being the only things that aren’t working until now. Don’t worry though, as the problems will be resolved as soon as a new version of the RocketROM platform will be released for your Note N7000.

If you prefer the stock and leaked OS instead of this custom ROM, then I recommend you to use our previous step by step guide and learn how to update the Samsung Galaxy Note to official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XXLSA, or why not just wait for the OTA update to be provided by Samsung. But if you do decide that the Jelly Bean based RocketROM is what you need for your phablet, then you should resume the next lines and apply the pre requisites because first of all you will have to prepare your phone for the installation procedure that will follow. I have mentioned the pre requisites during the following list, so don’t skip this section as it is the most relevant one.

  • This is a custom ROM and not an official Jelly Bean update released by Samsung for your Note N7000. By completing this guide you will void the warranty of your device.
  • Considering the above aspect, you must first backup the Galaxy Note data. You should start by saving the contacts, messages, call logs, EFS and end with the current ROM. In this way, if something wrong will happen you can easily restore and use the stock ROM again. Also, a wipe will be required so the backup is not an option for you.
  • After taking care of your personal info it’s time to complete more complex operations. The first to start with is the root one. You must root your Note if you want to update it with the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean powered RocketROM firmware. The ROM needs to access some internal files from your phablet and the only way for enabling that is by rooting the system.
  • Again, the warranty will get void so be careful in what you do. The only way available for restoring the warranty is by downgrading or installing the stock Android OS.
  • A custom recovery image must be installed on your Note as this tool will be used for the flashing operation. So download CWM recovery for your handset. Take note that this app will work only on a rooted system.
  • For being able to perform this tutorial you must have access to a Windows running computer.
  • On your computer and on your smartphone there shouldn’t be installed any security programs so before starting the proper step by step guide uninstall or deactivate the antivirus and Firewall protection.
  • Also, charge the battery of your device if there is less than 60% power left.
  • Apply the next steps only if you own the Samsung Galaxy Note N7000. The Jelly Bean based RocketROM v2 will work only for the mentioned device; if you try to update another handset with the same software you will risk in bricking your smartphone / tablet.

How to Update Galaxy Note N7000 with RocketROM Jelly Bean Custom ROM firmware

  1. Download the custom ROM firmware from here.
  2. Download the Keyboard fix package from here in order to remove the above explained bug.
  3. Save the files on your computer first.
  4. Then, connect the device with the PC and copy the files to your phone’s SD card.
  5. Unplug the USB cord and turn off the handset.
  6. You must reboot it in recovery mode, from where you will install the update and the bug-fix package.
  7. For recovery mode press and hold down the Volume Up, Home, and Power buttons together.
  8. Now, from the menu that will be displayed first of all choose: “wipe data factory reset” and “wipe cache partition”.
  9. Return to the main menu: “+++go back+++”.
  10. And then select “install zip from sd card” and “choose zip from sd card”.
  11. Pick the update file first and install the same.
  12. Then, do similar for flashing the Keyboard fix package.
  13. The installation procedure will take a couple of minutes.
  14. In the end select “+++go back+++” and “reboot system now” and you are done.

That was all; you now know which is the easiest way that can be applied if you want to update your Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 with the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean based RocketROM custom ROM firmware. Run the software and then return here and share your impressions with us and with other users. Also, check our daily posts as we will bring more suitable guides for your Note during the next few days.

Internet Download Manager ( IDM )_Full

Internet Download Manager ( IDM ) is the best download manager all we know but its not freeware means they are just providing the trial version for 1 month and after that IDM will ask for the serial key. without Original serial key IDM will not work. Because whenever you enter the serial key it will verify with its database and after that it will accept the serial key. so we need to crack it manually so just follow the simple steps.
1. Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc now you can see some files are there and double click on hosts file and open it with notepad.

PIT Magic is the All In One solution for Creating, Editing and Analyzing Samsung PIT Files.

What are Samsung PIT Files?
PIT files contain the Partition Information Table (PIT) for Samsung Android phones. Different firmware versions may require different partition layouts so the necessary PIT file 'tells' Odin how to set up the phone partitions correctly for the specified firmware to be installed.
The PIT file contains all the relevant information for each required partition such as Partition Name, Flash File Name, Block Size, Block Count etc. and also contains some unknown properties that maybe identifiers or flags of some sort.

Quote:

Big thanks to Benjamin Dobell and Adam Outler for their extensive knowledge. I have read alot of threads where I found all of your comments regarding pit files very useful.

PIT Magic's Main Features:

Create New PIT Files from scratch.
Edit Existing PIT Files and change all available properties.
Analyze a PIT File and create a human readable report of all Partition entries.
Export PIT Analysis to Text File or Copy to Clipboard direct from the User Interface.
Add or Remove Partition entries to a New or Existing PIT File.
Save options to write changes to Existing PIT File or write a New PIT File altogether.

Successfull UnBrick'ed /EMMC /DATA using hg42's PIT

PLEASE READ "hg42's" THREAD so you can fully understand how to safely "isolate" the bad sector/blocks and unbrick your device.
PIT file method to revive your phone from a MMC_CAP_ERASE brick
[recovery-app Partition scanner (mainly for emmc bricks)]
My friend has an N7000 16GB, she flashed a lot of custom rom's on the phone and then she realised she has about 5 gb of internal storage , i told her to format and flash an official rom. That's what bricked the phone, i've took the phone and started reading the forum and this is what i did.
- i've downloaded 4pda_kernel and flashed via ODIN so i can have acces to recovery CWM
- then i entered recovery , and under mounts and storage i could not mount or format /data , /emmc
- i downloaded hg42 Partition Scanner witch is "flashable" via CWM
- i runned the scanner START to END (1>16000) and END to START (16000>1) so i could identify the bad sectors / bricked blocks
- START>END stopped at 2184 MB , END>START stopped at 4265 so the bad blocks ar from 2184 to 4265 .
- then i got the modified PIT in my chase (N7000_16GB_Q1_20110914--patched--brick-between-01174-and-04395-MB--DATAFS-moved-by-03072-MiB) from hg42's THREAD and flashed it via odin and an official firmware (N7000_XXKL8) everything worked flawless.
ALL OF THIS THANKS TO "hg42" !!!

ALL Leaked ICS KERNELS HAS HARD BRICK Bug!!!

Text from xda-developers.com

***WARNING!!! PLEASE READ! ICS Kernels and Recovery

DO NOT FLASH OR WIPE USING ANY ICS REPACK OR STOCK KERNEL

Not even wiping in stock recovery is safe with affected kernels. Almost all ICS kernels for the GT-N7000 are affected. Only two are currently known to be safe - see the list below.
These kernels are fundamentally dangerous. Samsung introduced some sort of bug in the eMMC driver that can permanently damage the eMMC flash storage of the phone. This leads to unusable partitions at best, and at worst a hardbricked device. The nature of the failure is so severe that the usual method for hardbrick recovery (JTAG) is unable to recover devices damaged in this manner.
The issue is not limited to just Clockworkmod Recovery - Stock recovery, along with factory resetting a device from Settings, is just as dangerous.
Kernels that have been confirmed affected are:
All ICS leaks for the Samsung Epic 4G Touch (SPH-D710)
All ICS leaks for the Samsung Galaxy Note (GT-N7000)
All ICS official releases for the Samsung Galaxy Note (GT-N7000) as of late May 2012 - This includes XXLPY, ZSLPF, and DXLP9, and future kernels should be assumed affected until further notice.
UCLD3 ICS leak for the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II (SGH-I777) - Other leaks may also be affected
Kernels built using the most recent SHW-M250S/K/L official source code release as of May 3, 2012 - This includes SiyahKernel 3.1rc6 for GT-I9100 (all other Siyah releases are safe)
Damage is not guaranteed - it may only affect a small percentage of users, but even a 5% chance is far more dangerous than the effectively 0% chance of hardbricking due to kernel bugs in safe kernels.
Not all users hardbrick - some wind up with /system, /data, or another partition becoming unwriteable, which leads to an effectively useless phone even though they are able to flash kernels in Odin.
Kernels that have been confirmed safe:
All known Gingerbread kernels for the Galaxy Note and other affected devices listed above
Kernels built from the GT-I9100 Update4 source code release - this includes XplodWILD's CM9 release and my DAFUQ release, hopefully more kernel choices will become available soon
Kernels with MMC_CAP_ERASE removed from mshci.c should be safe - look for it in the listed features of any kernel based off of N7000 Update3. (N7000 Update3 source code without this change made to render it safe is dangerous.)
If you are running an affected kernel:
STOP USING IT IMMEDIATELY. FLASH A SAFE KERNEL USING ODIN/HEIMDALL.
DO NOT wipe in recovery
DO NOT flash anything else in recovery
In general, DO NOT use recovery at all
Right now, what we know:
Some people can wipe with affected kernels as often as they want without problems. Just because you didn't brick, DO NOT advise other users that they will be OK.
Based on reports from the Epic 4G Touch community, some people can wipe/flash 20-30 times before hardbricking - Just because you didn't brick once, DO NOT continue flashing with an affected kernel
The source of the problem is somewhere within the changes between I9100 Update4 and SHW-M250S Update5 - [ Login above or register to see download links. ]
What we don't know:
Exactly which source commit above is responsible
How to determine if a future kernel or source release is safe without putting user's devices at risk - You only need to reproduce the problem once to be hosed.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1615058 - Issues with SHW-M250L Update4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=159 - Information indicating that our eMMC chip has a serious firmware bug. All of the issues with fwrev 0x19 match our symptoms PERFECTLY. It explains partially why I9100 update4 is safe - MMC_CAP_ERASE is not enabled in the I9100 update4 MMC driver. The question is: Why isn't Gingerbread affected despite also having the MMC_CAP_ERASE flag set?

Fix - File is too large for Destination – Error ?

while copying some large files to an external hard drive, I was promptly issued this message by Windows:

The file “myfile” is too large for the destination file system.

image

My pen drive had formatted in FAT32 format. The max file size for FAT32 is 4GB. The max file size for FAT16 is only 2GB!

You can override this in 2 ways

1. spilt the file by using free wares

HJSplit

image

2. Its permanent fix ( change the FAT32 filesystem to NTFS )

How to ?

Windows Vista and above versions provides the FAT to NTFS Conversion Utility (convert.exe) for this purpose. To convert drive C:, for example, just open a Command Prompt window(cmd.exe) and type:

convert c: /fs:ntfs     (replace the ‘C’ with your usb drive letter)

Note that “c” is the drive letter so make sure to change it to the drive that you want to convert – otherwise you will be converting your drive “c”.

image

Include the /v option to run in “verbose” mode, which provides more information as it does its job. Type convert /? for other, more advanced options.

Note that this is a one-way conversion, at least when using the software included with Windows Vista. If you need to convert an NTFS drive to FAT32 for some reason, you’ll need a third-party utility such as Disk Director, (http://www.acronis.com/).

How To Safely Flash A ROM On The Samsung Galaxy Note

A lot of people are worried about flashing ROMs on the Galaxy Note because they don’t want to be a victim of the eMMC brick bug, I’ve had my Note for about 6 months now and by using this simple method I’ve never had a problem flashing ROMs.

1.) Backup everything off your Note you want to keep because it will be wiped.

2.) Download a safe kernel that doesn’t have the eMMC brick bug, I personally use Abyss Note as it has a touch interface. Here are a few to choose from:

3.) Reboot into recovery, hold down Volume Up, Home, and the Power button together until your phone reboots into the ClockworkMod Recovery.

4.) Flash the safe kernel, choose “install zip from sdcard”  then choose “zip from sdcard” or “zip from internal sdcard” depending on where you saved the safe kernel, find the kernel and confirmyou want to flash it.

5.) Reboot the recovery, because we flashed a new kernel we need to reboot the recovery, from the recovery main menu choose “advanced” then choose “reboot recovery”.

6.) Wipe data and cache, to flash the new ROM we need to wipe the old one off first, from the main menu choose “wipe data/factory reset” and confirm, then choose “wipe cache partition” andconfirm, then choose “advanced” then pick “wipe dalvik cache” and confirm.

7.) Flash the new ROM, flash the new ROM the same way you flashed the kernel before. Choose “install zip from sdcard”  then choose “zip from sdcard” or “zip from internal sdcard” depending on where you saved the ROM, find the ROM and confirm you want to flash it.

8.) Enjoy your Galaxy Note and new ROM, as long as the ROM you are using has a safe kernel you will be safe from the “brick bug”, if your unsure follow this guide again to ensure your Galaxy Note doesn’t end up a worthless brick.

Step 7: Go to Run and use msconfig and choose Normal boot under General tab this time, apply and click restart when prompted

Step 8: When restarted you can see that the watermarks are gone and by checking the usual slmgr -dli/dlv/xpr commands in Command Prompt you'll see that it worked and you're activated + by checking the Volume Activation Management Tool 2.0you'll see License Status: License renewed and Genuine Status: Genuine.Congratulations!! Your Windows 8 copy is now Activated with Genuine Activation Key and you have successfully completed the restoration method. Enjoy!

How to Join .001,002,003 etc files into One by Using HJSplit

With HJSplit you can not only split files, but also join the split parts back together again.

Information: a collection of split parts is set of files having all the same filename, exept for the extension at the end of the file name (.001, .002, .003, etc.) . Combining/joining these split parts is equivalent to restoring the original (pre-split) file.

After clicking on the 'Join' button in the main HJSplit screen, you will see the following screen:

To join a set of files, just perform the steps indicated below.

(1) Make sure the set of split parts (set of files ending in .001, .002, .003, etc.) to be joined all reside inside the same directory.

(2) click on the button 'Input file', in the screen directly above, which will open the dialog shown directly below:

(3) In this dialog, select the file you want to join. Then press the 'Open' button.

Information: please note that only the first file in the set of split parts (the .001 file) is visible in this dialog. Note that it is important that all split parts are in the same folder. When the other files which belong to the set of split parts (.002, .003, .004, etc.) are in the same folder, HJSplit will automatically find them during joining.

After pressing 'Open', the name and path of the file you just selected will appear in the 'input file' box, please see below:

(4) Press the 'start' button in the screen above. HJSplit now shows a progressbar with the title 'working'.

(5) Finally, you will see the message that joining is completed (see below).

That the joined file can now be found in the same folder as the split part (the .001 file you selected in step 2).

Get it from here
